In the London Now London Restaurant Guide we want to cover all types of London restaurants from the simple basic London restaurant to the London restaurant's favoured by the food loving gourmet restaurants. We are very interested in hearing from you if you have a suggestion as to a restaurant that should be featured in this guide. It could be a restaurant that features exquisite food or a London restaurant which is inexpensive but delivers good quality food. The first restaurant we feature here never fails to amaze me as I can never believe the quality and the quantity of food that they serve for such reasonable prices. It is the Chelsea Kitchen London on the Kings Road in the heart of Chelsea. I introduced this bargain restaurant to my daughter earlier this year when she was over from America on a study course for her university.

She shared a room with another American girl and after I had taken her and she had enjoyed the good food and the amazing value they made it a regular for themselves. Both of the girls being students were on limited budgets and my daughters friend said she was so broke that this was the only restaurant she had found in London that she could afford to eat in. The Chelsea Kitchen offers good wholesome food in a pleasant atmosphere in a prime location on one of the trendiest streets in London. Main courses are £3 to about £5.50 which is about the same price as eating in a fast food restaurant such as McDonalds. Deserts are a great treat as you can get apple crumble and custard for example for only £1.50. The Chelsea Kitchen is located on the same side of the Kings Road as the Peter Jones Department store and is only a couple hundred yards if you walk up the Kings Road from Sloane Square tube station.
In the area of London called Belgravia, you will find Jenny Lo's Teahouse. Long before noodle bars hit the big time, Jenny Lo's was offering stripped-down Chinese fare at communal tables. The modern interior bustles on weekdays, but the delicious Cha Clao (pork noodle soup £5.50) and the broad selection of Asian noodles from Vietnamese to Beijing Style (£5.50-£7.50) make it well worth the wait. Tea's, blended in-house, are served in attractive hand-turned stoneware.

I will give you full details but for the time being you will just have
to be content with the address and their telephone number.

Beach Blanket Babylon London
Beach Blanket Babylon

Beach Blanket Babylon is a magical gothic-inspired bar and restaurant
nestled in an old Georgian House in the heart of Nottinghill. A playground
for Nottinghill’s rich and beautiful, well-heeled socialites and
fashionistas unwind in the sumptuous upstairs bar with potent, well-prepared
cocktails poured by attentive staff members who also appear to have just
stepped off the catwalk.
While casually posing, one can savour the decadent décor of columns,
marble busts, urns and topiary. Chandeliers and strategically-placed
candles cast light upon a plethora of 17th Century cabinets dripping
with vintage costume jewellery crafted by designers such as Christian
Dior and Chanel. These luxurious items are available for purchase
and range from £70-£1500.
Large, comfy armchairs are perfect to sink into as you forget your
cares and indulge in stimulating conversation with your entourage. If
the intoxicating environment has left you wanting some fresh air, an
outside patio area with a handful of small iron tables is particularly
welcoming as it is more private and affords the perfect opportunity for
further people-watching.
The restaurant comprises several rooms interconnected by walkways,
tunnels, bridges and staircases with names such as The Chapel, Crypt
and Scullery Gallery aptly describing each space.
Going deeper into the depths of the restaurant, via a narrow staircase,
one can find The Crypt, a jewel of a restaurant filled with several nooks
and crannies that are ideal for an intimate meal. The central focus of
this subterranean oasis is a beautiful open fire place, which casts a
warm glow upon the stone walls creating an inviting old-world atmosphere.
BBB successfully blends historic dining with modern sophistication
and is a sure to impress the most discerning of Londoners. It is
advised to dress smart and bring your bank card as the cocktails
are expensive (£11) but justified given the ethereal experience
that is guaranteed.-2 October 2006
Thai Square Restaurant London
Thai Square is a contemporary Thai restaurant located in the award-winning
Putney Bridge Building. Take in the breathtaking view of the while sipping
a Woo Woo on their relaxing full-length balcony.
The Putney Building has been received various design awards for
its distinctly nautical construction. One of the most unique buildings
in London, it resembles a ship with metal beams, long glass windows,
and rope-threaded timber panels.
Special care has been taken to ensure that it preserves an authentic
Thai ambiance. Eight statues of Buddha are dispersed throughout the restaurant
and as tradition dictates, they are fed and watered daily.
Thai Square is divided into three distinct areas. The main restaurant
features Thai cuisine prepared by Prawat Ngam-Arom, a distinguished Thai
chef from Bangkok. The menu offers nearly 100 items ranging from a multitude
of starters, soups, noodle dishes, Thai salads, curries, rice dishes
and Thai specialities.
After dinner, saunter over to the bar to sample one of their many
sinful cocktails or to indulge in a glass of champagne. Meander towards
the back of the restaurant to the Cigar Lounge which features DJs spinning
house music and funky tunes on the weekends. This sultry lounge is stunning
in its modern simplicity coupled with rich jewel-toned velvet couches
and elaborate etched glass walls. If you don’t want to share the
opulence with the masses, reserve this intimate space for a private party
with your trendiest entourage.
On the weekends, arrive early to secure your space on the throbbing
dance floor and be prepared to wait longer than usual for a cocktail
as this is one of the hottest spots in town. This is undoubtedly a fantastic
venue if you are seeking somewhere classy yet relaxed enough to lose
your inhibitions and shake your stuff on the dance floor.

La Porte de Indes London
La Porte de Indes
“Indian Cuisine with a difference”
32 Bryanston Street, London W1H 7EG
Nearest Tube: Marble Arch
TEL: +44 20 7224 0055

E-mail: london.reservation@laportedesindes.com
The exterior of the Porte Des Indes is very unassuming, which makes
the entrance into this marvellous gem all the more breathtaking. Once
inside, the massive Edwardian ballroom with domed ceilings and dining
facilities on two large floors is revealed.
The remarkable interior of Indian stone balustrades and cascading
waterfalls instantly transports one to India. Palm trees and Mogul drawings
are a lovely sight to cast your eyes upon as you peruse the extensive
French-influenced Indian menu. Although the prices are slightly
higher than average, it is well worth it as their food is consistently
to the highest of standards.
I sampled their Mango Chilli Mohito, one of their many innovative
cocktails. This concoction consists of Angostura Rum, Sweet Basil Leaves,
Alphonso Mango. Much to my delight, my drink arrived in a coconut resting
on a banana leaf coaster! This drink was very sweet, yet not sickly
and was a wonderful complement to the Poulet Rouge. This house specialty
consists of Shredded chicken marinated in yoghurt and red spices, grilled
and served in a creamy sauce. For accompaniments, I ordered Riz au Coco, rice
scented with fragrant curry leaves and coconut, as well as a Laccha Paratha,
Rich flaky bread enriched with butter. The portions looked rather small
when they arrived, but by the time I had finished, I was stuffed. All
of the items I had ordered were well-presented and flavourful but not
overpowering.
The service here was second-to-none. Our food arrived promptly,
and our server was attentive and non-obtrusive.
After your meal, stroll over to the Jungle Bar for yet another
cocktail. All time classics such as Caipirinha, Cosmopolitan, Margaritas,
Fresh Fruit
Daiquiris and Champagne Cocktails and more exotic concoctions can
all be found here.
The Jungle Bar is designed as a hunters perch with beautiful paintings
of animals on the wall. Decorated with hurricane lamps, rattan wall coverings,
leaf-motif cane furniture, palms trees and tiger skin rugs, this area
is casually opulent. Guests are encouraged to throw peanut shells
on the floor to mimic the rich and famous in the Long Bar of the Raffles
of Singapore whose patrons frivolously threw down "peanut shells" as
a good humoured slightly rebellious act of appreciation which they could
not get away with at home.
I was sad to leave this hidden oasis, but my spirits were lifted again
when the doorman presented me with a single-stemmed orchid upon
my departure. This
venue is ideal for intimate dinners and corporate entertainment
alike.- 2 October 2006

Winner of several "best burger" awards, Gourmet Burger Kitchen
is an upmarket restaurant chain devoted to top quality burgers boasting
a multitude of exotic toppings. Created by two New Zealanders, GBK now
has six outlets in London and is set to expand further.
Fresh ingredients delivered each morning ensure that the customer will
experience the Rolls Royce of burgers. There are a plethora of burger
options to be had: chicken, lamb, chorizo, venison and an aubergine and
goats cheese burger. Multiply this by the toppings: avocado, pesto,
sweet potato, aubergine, goat’s cheese, bacon, cheddar, tomatoes,
peppers, pineapple, onion, salad, Portabello mushrooms, and a fried egg
and the possibilities are endless!
Their signature ‘Kiwiburger’, one of their most outrageous
concoctions (Aberdeen Angus beef, beetroot, egg, pineapple, cheese, salad
and relish), stands an amazing 6” from the plate! Eating
this beast of a burger proves to be quite a challenge, so it is probably
not the best place to go while on a date as you are likely to have sauces
and toppings everywhere!
As a side, try their delicious homemade chips which can be served with
Garlic Mayo, Blue Cheese, Satay, Chilli, Barbecue or Sour Cream on the
side. Delicious side salads and dinner salads are also available for
vegetarians. Wash down your meal with an ice-cold beer, soda, or one
of their infamous Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Banana, or Lime milkshakes.
The clean, stylish décor, prompt service and non-smoking
environment provide the perfect backdrop for casual eating.- 2
